Located above Wallpaper City, a longstanding paint and wallpaper store, this project involved adding two stories to the existing structure while the store remained operational. The addition includes eight rental units with four private decks, thoughtfully designed to maximize space and functionality within an urban setting.

Architectural Expression

The design concept is inspired by the width of a typical wallpaper roll. This dimension informed the bays and divisions on the façade, creating a rhythmic pattern that reflects the store’s specialty. The façade combines these proportions with contemporary materials, resulting in a cohesive and visually engaging exterior. The use of stone cladding and updated storefront windows modernizes the lower level while maintaining a connection to the building’s commercial roots.

Spatial Design and Functionality

Residential Units: Eight rental units are efficiently laid out to provide comfortable living spaces. Large windows and private decks enhance natural light and offer outdoor amenities for residents.
Storefront Renovation: The ground-level retail space received an updated façade with stone and new storefront windows, improving street presence and customer experience.
